Paleo Birth Control Options

Looking for paleo birth control options?

You can avoid pregnancy (or get pregnant) without the use or hormones or invasive devices.

It just requires a little education and getting to know your body.

If you’re struggling with mental health issues, your birth control may be an underlying culprit — it definitely was for me.

For years, I took birth control pills (which made me cranky and pudgy). Then, I got a copper IUD (which gave me painful, 10-day-long periods that led to anemia). Copper IUDs can also create mineral imbalances in the body, which are a major underlying contributor to mood issues. And hormonal IUDs are a whole different story …

Finally, I discovered the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). I call it paleo birth control. 🙂

Every day, I take my temperature and observe my cervical fluid to know if I have a chance of getting pregnant or not. And on the days that I can get pregnant, I use protection (a diaphragm along with natural spermicide).

If I ever want to have a baby, I can use the same signs from my body to determine the optimum time to conceive.

FAM gets confused with the Rhythm Method, which is why it has a bad reputation. However, when practiced properly, it can be up to 99% effective in preventing pregnancy.

I’m blown away by the fact that so few women know the truth about FAM. You don’t need to be a slave to artificial hormones and invasive devices, and you don’t have to sacrifice effectiveness.

My Paleo Birth Control Toolkit: What You Need to Implement the Fertility Awareness Method

Taking Charge of Your Fertility: This is considered the “bible” of FAM. It’s incredibly well-written, thorough, and easy to understand. The book provides detailed instructions for avoiding and achieving pregnancy.

Kindara: This is the free app I use to chart my cycle. There are several apps on the market, but this is the easiest to use (and the prettiest)!

Wink Thermometer: A high-quality basal body temperature (BBT) thermometer that integrates wirelessly with Kindara. It doesn’t beep, it’s gently backlit, it automatically stores and logs your data, and it’s one of the most accurate thermometers on the market.

Diaphragm: This is my personal choice for birth control on my “not safe” days. I got mine at my local Planned Parenthood. Diaphragms are getting harder and harder to find, but if you’re persistent, you can get one. The brand that I use is called Caya.

Contragel: An all-natural spermicide that I use in tandem with my diaphragm. You have to order it online, but it’s way better than putting chemicals in your body.
